Powerful Botanical Formulas: New Weapons Against Cancer

Latest Data Shows How Botanical Formulas Safely Fight Cancer and Metastasis

Santa Rosa, California (Oct. 16, 2012) – In the battle against cancer, some of the most remarkable weapons are proving to be specialized botanical supplements. Recently, a significant and growing body of scientific data was presented to over 200 oncologists and doctors, demonstrating the anti-cancer benefits of three unique botanical supplements: A breast formula; a prostate formula, and a preparation called Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) derived from citrus peels. Researchers investigating these specialized supplements have found they suppress cancer invasiveness, modulate the expression of cancer cell cycle genes and decrease metastasis – without leading to toxic side effects. Daniel Sliva, Ph.D., associate professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine shared these findings during this year’s Meeting of the Society for Integrative Oncology, in Albuquerque, NM.

Study After Study Shows These Formulas Fight Cancer and Metastasis

This evolving body of peer-reviewed evidence continues to further substantiate the powerful anti-cancer effects of these health formulas. Significantly, original in vitro results on the breast and prostate formulas were later confirmed in vivo, demonstrating through each phase of research that these formulas work through multiple mechanisms of action on the cellular and genomic levels.

“The more we investigate these specific supplements, the more we understand their abilities to thwart cancer via different pharmacological mechanisms,” says Dr. Sliva, lead author on many of these studies.

“Importantly, these formulas have had positive results against some of the most difficult cancers to treat, such as triple-negative breast cancer and hormone-refractory prostate cancer.”

Treatment for Aggressive Breast Cancer

The most recent 2012 in vivo study published in the journal Oncology Reports, showed the breast formula substantially decreased tumor growth and breast-to-lung metastasis in aggressive, triple negative breast cancer. Gene analysis confirmed that the breast formula down-regulated genes associated with breast cancer proliferation and metastasis, such as PLAU (urokinase plasminogen activator, uPA) and CXCR4 (C-X-C chemokine receptor-4). As mentioned, similar results were also observed in previous in vitro studies on this formula.

This breast formula combines eight potent herbal extracts and active nutrients: quercetin; bio-enhanced curcumin (turmeric rhizome extract) (BCM-95®); a proprietary extract of Scutellaria barbata herb; Astragalus membranaceus root extract; three medicinal mushrooms species grown on a blend immune-boosting herbs; and 3,3′-diindolylmethane (DIM).

Treatment for Aggressive Prostate Cancer

The botanical prostate formula also demonstrated significant results against aggressive, androgen-independent, (i.e. hormone refractory) prostate cancer in multiple published studies. This formula contains 33 botanical extracts and active nutrients, including: quercetin; saw palmetto berry; pomegranate; stinging nettle; bio-enhanced curcumin (turmeric rhizome extract) (BCM-95®); a blend of three botanically enhanced medicinal mushrooms; and other prostate-specific nutrients and herbs.

The latest 2012 in vivo study on this formula, published in The International Journal of Oncology showed that it suppressed androgen-independent prostate tumor growth, with no toxicity. Results show the formula also decreased the expression of specific genes implicated in prostate cancer and metastasis, such as IGF2, NRNF2 and PLAU (uPA). It was also shown to increase the expression of CDKN1A (p21), a gene that inhibits prostate cancer. Again, these in vivo results confirm previous in vitro data published on this formula, underscoring its mechanisms of action against aggressive prostate cancer proliferation and metastasis.

“That these formulas can control cancer on the genetic and cellular level is significant,” says integrative medicine pioneer Isaac Eliaz, M.D., study co-author. “By controlling the genetic mechanisms of cancer, we inhibit its activity at the most fundamental level.”

Formulas Show Synergy with Modified Citrus Pectin

Perhaps the most startling results came from a 2012 synergy study pairing the two formulas with MCP, a form of citrus pectin modified to increase bioactivity systemically throughout the body. Since 1995, Modified Citrus Pectin has been extensively researched in pre-clinical and clinical studies and is shown to inhibit cancer proliferation and metastasis; safely chelate heavy metals; boost immunity and provide support against a number of health concerns related to inflammation and fibrosis.

This synergy study, published in Integrative Cancer Therapies, showed that the combination of MCP with the breast and prostate formulas synergistically inhibited aggressive cancer cell behavior significantly. The combinations also further suppressed the metastatic characteristic of human breast and prostate cancer cells, in significant values. Data from this study highlights the importance of synergy in combination therapies. Results demonstrate that when MCP was used together with the breast and prostate formulas, the anti-cancer efficacy of all three supplements was increased beyond a normal additive effect.

Research Continues

“I was delighted for the opportunity to have this research and work presented at the important SIO conference,” says Dr. Eliaz. “These are sophisticated formulas shown to fight cancer while supporting overall health.  As research continues to show their effectiveness against breast and prostate cancers, we look forward to human clinical trials and bringing these benefits to more patients seeking safe and effective natural cancer adjunct therapy.”

  1. This is very good news for people looking for alternatives to chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. As for myself, I would try MCP and the Botanical Formula and other natural treatment I have read about over the years before subjecting my body to being burned or poisoned. The trouble is most people will get bullied by their doctors into chemo, radiation, or surgery without being offered any alternatives. My friend is undergoing 8 weeks of chemo and radiation for a tumor they found behind his throat. He was in treatment a week after they found the tumor. I can only hope and pray the treatment doesn’t do him permanent bodily harm. Thank you Dr. Eliaz for keeping people in the know about alternatives to traditional cancer treatments.

  2. I recently underwent having my cancerous prostate removed surgically will taking MCP by itself help me now or should I take both formulas?

  3. In your discussion you did not mention the enzyme CYP1B1 which is thought to be present in 95% of men with prostate cancer. Does your prostate formula have the ability to activate the CYP1B1 enzyme resulting in the death of the PC cell ?

    • Don:

Thank you for your question. This is what our research department has to say:

“This specific enzyme Cytochrome P450 1B1 or the gene CYP1B1 that encodes it has not been detected directly in the research that has been published on the prostate formula. In a DNA-microarray analysis on the effect of the formula on PC-3 (androgen independent human prostate cancer cells) demonstrated that the formula inhibits proliferation through the modulation of expression of CCND1, CDK4, CDKN1A, E2F1, MAPK6 and PCNA genes. In addition, PC also suppresses metastatic behavior of PC-3 by the inhibition of cell adhesion, cell migration and cell invasion, which was associated with the down-regulation of expression of CAV1, IGF2, NR2F1, and PLAU genes and suppressed secretion of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) from the cells.”

  4. have prostate cancer been taking your product pectasol – C modified citrus pectin and prostacaid for nine months after biospy numbers went from 6.8 too 4.2 two months too next check up does this mean the cancer is dyeing this is the only thing I USED FOR TREATMENT

    • This is very good news. There is a beneficial effect occurring. We can’t know exactly what is happening internally. Everyone’s situation is different. We do know that both of these products are known for supporting cellular health and immune health.

  5. Astragalus may interact with medications that suppress the immune system, such as cyclophosphamide.It may also affect blood sugar levels and blood pressure.-.;;

  7. My husband was diagnose 10 yrs ago with Prostrate cancer. Not to be rude but we are favorites of Miracle from The Vault (HSI) and we have had him on Pectasol C and Prostacaid which we have bought from your company. We had to decide to go with radiation, because his PSA rose,,,, AFTER BIOPSIES, yes those biopsies, stuck many times increased and spread his cancer. Me, Jan is an RN, and would love a feedback. Want him on Pectasol C and Prostacaid as soon as the radiation is over, Respecively, Jan Hood

    • Thank you for your question. Since these products promote healthy cell function, healthy hormone balance, etc. once you are able to resume intake of supplements per your physician these would be excellent. All the best

  8. I have pleimorphic sarcoma in my arm and three tumors have been removed. Now is in my lymph nodes. Do you know of any batonical
treatments for sarcomas? I have had neither radiation nor chemo. I did natural things and it didn’t come back for 16 months. Now the doctor is testing my pathology to see if there is a specific gene driving the sarcoma. If so, he will use a smart drug for it. Thank you, Aeda Leonard

    • Thank you for your question. We are not able to make specific recommendations for a particular disease. We can recommend that you look into compounds that provide cellular health benefits including modified citrus pectin which has both human and animal studies and Honokiol which has cell culture and animal studies. We always advise that before you take any supplements you consult with a health care practitioner who is knowledgeable in the use of dietary supplements and how they might interact with any conventional therapies.

  9. i I HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT WAS EXPOSED TO CHEMICALS DURING VIET NAM WAR. HAS HAD TREATMENT NOTHING HAS WORKED TURMOR IS LARGER DOCTORS HAS EXPRESSED THAT THEIR IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO PLEASE HELP

    • Thank you for your questions, however we are not able to advise you on medical issues or on your specific program. You will need to find an integrative physician in your area. You can go online to ACAM, ACNP, to see if you can find someone in your area.

  10. All the new research on cancer agents being stopped is great! However, I have been healed of pancreatic cancer in 2010 and I still take the herbal supplements that brought restored health to me back then and now. My question is whether I should continue to take Uva Ursi, Paw Paw and All Cell Detox since I have been healed of pancreatic cancer. I now am experiencing a pain in my right side and it goes to my back at times with very sharp pains. My hope is that my kidneys are not over whelmed by the excessive use of these supplements past their needed time. I love to hear a response from you. Thank you Alise

    • Thank you for your question. Modified citrus pectin should not interfere with pharmaceutical drugs if taken by at least a 30 minute separation. We have not as yet studied synergistic effects of MCP and tamoxifen, but since they have different mechanisms of action, there could in theory be a complimentary effect. MCP has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of some chemotherapeutic agents. We know that MCP binds to galectin-3, an inflammatory protein that drives cancer metastasis, and it also enhances immune function, as well as binding to heavy metals, some of which have estrogenic properties. MCP does not interact with estrogen receptors. We are currently in studies to determine if a polybotanical formula interacts favorably with Tamoxifen.
